Considering veneers to transform your smile? Before you pack your bags for one of our all-inclusive Cosmetic Dental Packages, let us debunk the top 5 myths about Porcelain Veneers so that you can feel confident you’re making the right choice.
Be confident in your new smile
Porcelain Veneers offer dramatic results and have been gaining popularity among those who want to quickly acquire the confidence that comes with a spectacular smile. But with popularity comes a lot of misinformation.
At CosMediSmile, our trusted Gold Coast and Melbourne dentists want to ensure that you’re confident in the new smile journey you’re about to embark upon. So, before you contact us for your free consultation, take a read below as we debunk the top 5 myths about veneers.
Myth 1: My smile will look unnatural
Not the case! Gone are the days of ‘one-size-fits-all’ veneers—those too big, too white shells that stand out against your existing teeth. Our dentists are passionate about cosmetic dentistry and want to ensure that your new smile fills you with endless confidence.
CosMediSmile’s custom veneers are available in a variety of shades and are shaped and fitted to meet your desired smile outcome. We use only the highest quality porcelain, ensuring a veneer surface that mimics your teeth’s natural enamel. Whether you opt for our Gold Coast veneers or our Melbourne veneers, all our dentists work with you to ensure that your smile expectations are met.

Myth 2: My teeth will be filed down to tips
If you’ve just started thinking about veneers, there’s a good chance you’ve got the voice of that one friend in your head, telling you you’re about to get your teeth destroyed by having some dentist file them down into tiny fangs.
Our advice? Stop listening to that friend!
While a small amount of enamel will need to be removed from the front of your teeth to allow the veneers to grip on, this required ‘surface preparation’ is generally less than 1mm. In some cases, additional filing may be required, but this is done on a tooth-by-tooth basis.
Our experienced dentists only file enough to allow your veneers to fit flush with your smile line and, where they don’t need to file, they won’t.
If you’re concerned about the filing process and any discomfort it may cause, be sure to ask our Cosmetic Dental Specialists about it during your consultations.
Myth 3: Veneers are fragile
CosMediSmile dentists use high quality Porcelain Veneers—a material known for its strength and durability. Porcelain veneers are non-porous, so unlike tooth enamel, they aren’t easily stained by red wine, coffee, tea and other foods, plus they can withstand the pressures of daily chewing.
Porcelain Veneers, when cared for properly, can last up to 20 years.
To care for your veneers:
- Floss and clean daily (using a non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste)
- Visit your dentist regularly (at least twice a year)
- Avoid foods/objects that would chip your natural teeth
- Don’t grind your teeth
If you suffer from bruxism (teeth grinding), please contact our friendly Cosmetic Dental Specialists on 1300 000 633 about options to safeguard your veneers.
Myth 4: My natural teeth will weaken from veneers
Not so—veneers actually add an additional layer of protection to your teeth! Despite feeling ultra-thin, our porcelain veneers act as strong, ceramic covers that fit directly over your natural teeth. If you’ve experienced a loss of tooth enamel, CosMediSmile veneers may be quite helpful in providing a strong coating that can protect your teeth from further deterioration.
Myth 5: Veneers are a superficial aesthetic option
Porcelain Veneers certainly do offer a beautiful aesthetic result. If it’s a whiter, more balanced smile you’re after (and one that can last the test of time), veneers may be the ideal option for you. But more than that, they can also resolve a range of dental issues too!
CosMediTour veneers can provide dramatic improvements to those who suffer from cracked, chipped or broken teeth; thin enamel; small teeth; overcrowded teeth; and minor misalignments, however they aren’t for everyone.
The success of veneers can be impacted by severe decay or gum disease. Our highly skilled cosmetic dental team will go to great lengths to assess whether this is the best option for you.
