What is a Dental Bridge?

A dental Bridge is a false tooth, otherwise known as a ‘pontic’, that is held in place by the abutment teeth on either side of the gap. A dental Bridge may come in a variety of materials such as gold but are most commonly made from Porcelain. This ensures the Bridge is both strong & durable as well as matching to the surrounding Crowns.

Why do I need a Dental Bridge?

When you have missing teeth, it can affect you in many ways both physically, psychologically and functionally as well. A dental bridge can:

  • Restore your smile
  • Restore your ability to properly chew
  • Address concerns of speech and pronunciation
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Redistribute your bite force when chewing
  • Prevent your other teeth from moving out of  correct alignment

Variations of Dental Bridges

There are four main types of dental bridges:

  • Traditional
  • Cantilever
  • Maryland
  • Implant-supported

Although there are 4 types of dental bridges, the most commonly used is a Traditional bridge. A traditional bridge consists of a false tooth being held in place by dental crowns that have been cemented onto the abutment teeth on each side. This covers the gap and creates a flawless smile.
